Whilst dismantling the rear hub/drum to attend to the project's brakes, I dropped one of the bearings, which resulted in a lot of dirt sticking to the grease, and much swearing from me.
Is it permissible to clean (using petrol) the bearing and re-pack with grease? _________________ Austin - you can DEPEND on it!

Yes, it's OK to clean & re-use, maybe use parrafin/diesel to clear the grease, then blow out the remaining dirt using an airline etc. & re-pack with LM grease.
Check the bearing cage for dents/damage caused by being dropped. |
