I'm probably in the minority using only classics and them being my only cars all year round. The Allegro has been giving faultless service as you would expect; I haven't even been under the bonnet for weeks apart from checking the oil.

Meanwhile the Series II Morris Minor has also had a few outings performing a few cheeky 360s here and there.

What are other members driving and what have you done with your Allegros over the winter?

My allegro was used all over xmas n new year comes out of his garage once ee a week depending on weather it was out yesterday for an mot n it passed

Good job. I'm a firm believer that cars need to be used regularly for long periods so the engine thoroughly warms up.

Yeah, you have to be using it properly; there's little point just letting it run static until it's hot, then switching it back off.

I use my cars all the time, although currently the Allegros aren't behaving as well as I'd like. Still, as every car I own is at least 22 years old, I think that counts as using a classic whatever the weather Wink

My Allegro 3 1.3L (HLS upgrade) is used all through the year, sun, rain, hail or snow. Loved it when my neighbours 10 yr old Renault Megane wouldn't start the other day and the Allegro fired up on the first turn in front of him. Doubt he'll be taking the p*** out of the Allegro anymore...Divine retribution methinks! Smile

Must say that little old 1275 A+ unit pulls brilliantly and the Avons grip very well also in the snow (mind you, you can spin 'em if you're showing off a bit) Razz

leaving many a newer car in the shade! Cool

i'm currently running a rover metro 1.1c as my daily. i've been out everyday covering 25 miles to work no problem at all Very Happy

Well, I am in my latest Rover 25 diesel (only 60,000 miles on this one, less than half of what was on the previous one I sold before Christmas).

This is my fourth, since I first bought a Rover 220SDi (same shape) in 2006.

The only complaint I have on this one is self-inflicted, really: the 205/50 tyres on Rover 200 BRM wheels do not grip on snow particularly well Shocked

Teresa is Allegro-less this winter: for many years she has used 'Penelope' (1982 Allegro 1.5HL) through the winter but she is now in storage awaiting various repairs. Instead, Teresa is using 'Agatha', her 1969 Austin 1300 Very Happy

She reports excellent traction in the snow.

Hector the Allegro is tucked away from the snow in My Garage

I have been using My 1995 Rover 214 "Chino" every day from November and no issues ,very warm heater ,however Tonight on My way home in fresh snow ,some clown drove into the back of Me ,breaking the Bumper and the boot wont open , I am sure it can be fixed but this Is why I will not drive Hector in the winter as one never knows what berk is behind you

Are you going through the insurance, Matt (they might write the car off) or is he/she going to offer a cash settlement?

What make of car was it that hit you?

It was a company car,Paul and the company have insisted it goes trough insurance , Took advice from Alan Wilson who thinks my car will be written off but I then have 2 options repair Chino or if too bad, break Chino and get another 214 Rolling Eyes

I use my 1989 Austin Metro 1.3L Automatic through the whole year although I have the luxury of not having to use it for work as I am able to walk to the station to get the train into work.

It is MUCH more economical, usually returning between 38-45 mpg, than my Mums year old Fiesta 1.4 Automatic than has averaged 29 mpg since we brought it!
