A 'decoke' is something that is unheard of nowadays, and might not even thought to be necessary for our Allegros, BUT one must remember that the design of the A-Series has its origins in the early 1950s. Certainly we know they burn oil, and over time carbon crud gets stuck to the valves, combustion chambers, pistons etc.
Sometime before winter I will be carrying out a decoke on JBY 794N, if anyone is particularly interested I will post up full details and photos, but I can assure you it is a job well worth doing!
Have any of you done a decoke before? I seriously doubt if any of our engines have had one. _________________ Austin - you can DEPEND on it!

It may also be worth considering having hardened valve seats fitted as you're planning a decoke.
A decoke does make such a difference on these little engines, I've decoked several engines on the cars I've owned which includes Triumph Herald & Vitesse, Austin Mini & Allegro, Morris Marina, Vauxhall Velox & Magnum etc & have always been pleased with the result.
Oh! & I shouldn't forget my motorbikes I've decoked too |

But have you ever done one on a forklift Laurence? The Coventry Climax must have been lapping the shop floor like an F1 car! _________________ Austin - you can DEPEND on it!
