Recently, while discussing possible options for Frankie's future, George mentioned that Tahiti Blue might look nice alongside the blue vinyl interior. A description of the colour was made by comparison to a Princess and a Maestro we had on the club stand this past weekend in Eastbourne, and the image conjoured up is appealing, so now I'm trying to confirm what it looks like.

I've been looking through some of the images on the site, and I'm hoping one of these will be Tahiti - but if they're not, I'm likely to add them to the pile of options to consider Wink

I know this one isn't it, it's much too dark - but I like it & would love to know the name of it.

I suppose Denim would also work but I'm not sure if getting a metallic would be more hassle than it's worth; besides, I already have one metallic estate!

There's a Tahiti blue on this MGB colour chart page. Not sure of it's accuracy though. If you click the "colours page" link you can see actual cars and Tahiti blue is shown also.

I think the VP and half a car are metallic, I could be wrong though, they just look metallic to me. I'm not sure of the Series 1 shade.

Judging from that MGB chart, the S1 I like is in Teal; however it's showing Tahiti as being quite dark, whereas we thought it was if anything a bit lighter than Pageant.

I wonder if Iris or Bermuda were ever offered on Allegros... I think Iris would look smashing with the light blue vinyl, maybe with some white accenting.

4th image down on the right-hand side of the homepage.

The bright sunlight makes it look almost Pageant Blue..........but it is Tahiti!

As for the photos you posted, the VP is Astral Blue (early series 2 which would have used the Regal blue interior in 'Austin' trim), 'HalfaCar' is Persian Aqua: actually a Rover SD1 colour, but also available on European market Allegros, and finally the series 1 Deluxe is Teal Blue.........only available for the first few months of production.

If you go for the Tahiti Blue option, it will certainly look good, and factory original too Smile

Or how about black??

Thanks Paul; it's still darker than I expected from George's description, so I think it's going to be passed over in the selection process; it's too similar to Gonzo's Nautilus. This is why I'm trying to move Frankie away from being white, or at least all-white, while Walter is still in the fleet. Now, if things go well with Andrew, maybe I'll have a vacancy for a white car again... Wink

To be honest, while black is a rare colour on our cars it's all too common on modern muck; I seriously considered silver for a while but George pointed out that it's also such a common colour nowadays that few people would give it a second look.

The interior is Regal I believe; the name certainly rings bells. The shell is an early S2, so perhaps Astral would be a good choice. I saw a (rusty, scrapped) 2-tone estate on Flickr yesterday*, which is some form of light blue over silver, split at the swage line - unusual but still "period" I think, & something else to add to the consideration pile.

*I'm at work now, Google suggests this should be the right link, or maybe this for a better shot but I'll double-check when I get home.

==========

I've also been thinking about a vinyl roof; I seem to recall an S2 in Snapdragon with a black roof & Stag alloys that used to be in the club but the only pic I have is at home, and Google's showing me no estates with vinyl roofs at all; was this ever a factory option?

My car is Tahiti Blue, although there were a couple of different versions in the 70s and a couple of different versions of the same name but different shade in the 90s. See the thread on my in the member's forum for lotsa pics.

I believe that a vinyl roof was a factory option, extremely mega rare on an estate. I think the yellow estate (now owned by Ben? Or is that a different car?) has a factory one.

The only info I have appended to the yellow car is "Ben Magoo" so presumably it's his. I need to work on some photoshops to see if my ideas are "realistic" though; I don't want Frankie to look too custom, even though she'll have deviated far from factory spec! Wink
